If you’re a health and fitness junkie then there’s no doubt you’re mindful of the food and drinks that you consume. Dining out and getting food and drinks to go can be a bit of a risk, as you never know for sure what it’s in. Now if you happen to be a coffee lover, there is an extra wrench in things because let’s face it, grabbing a hot cup of coffee while out and about can be just the pick-me-up you need caffeine-wise.
Not to fret, as I’ve got three helpful tips that will help you make the healthiest, freshest and tastiest coffee in the comfort of your own home.
It’s All About the Equipment You’re Using
There’s a lot to be said for buying the “right” kind of coffee beans/grind and we will certainly touch on that, but so much of the perfect cup of coffee has to do with the equipment you’re using. It’s time to get rid of the instant coffee from your cupboard and instead embrace such tools as a high-end coffee maker with all the bells and whistles, a coffee grinder, a traditional French press espresso coffee brewer, and a coffee kettle, ideal for the pour-over method.
Now you may not need all of those items, it comes down to how fast you want to brew a cup of joe, how many cups you want to be able to make at once, the work involved, and clean-up. The French press is probably the best option for those who want a fuss-free, relatively quick brew time and the ability to make one or many cups at once.
If you tend to like the more fancy coffee beverages complete with froth, then the high-end coffee maker complete with bells and whistles is the way to go. You can find many different coffee devices around, depending on what you’re looking for. Have you ever walked into a coffee shop and been impressed by its massive coffee-making machines? You know the ones we mean, the ones with the steamers attached. Well, the good news is that these machines aren’t just available to coffee shops, they are also something that you can purchase!
What Coffee Is Best?
You can’t make the perfect cup of coffee with equipment alone; you also need the coffee itself. Coffee beans are always the freshest and best-tasting option. Be sure to check the date on the bag before you purchase them, and store them properly so they stay fresh. Only grind what you need for that day, or at the most for the next two days. Once you grind the beans, you release the flavour so they are best used immediately.
This also means you need a dependable coffee grinder that does a great job of grinding the beans uniformly. Be sure to check out a hand coffee grinder that is quick and easy, allows you to grind just the right amount for single or multiple cups, and features easy clean-up.
Of course, you can just go down to the local supermarket and purchase grounded coffee, if you aren’t super concerned about the freshness of your coffee. Many people prefer this just for the convenience, but they still aren’t ready to buy instant coffee. They will buy grounded coffee so that they can still make fresh tasting coffee. Again, it can all come down to personal preference, and you may find it best to experiment with different bean varieties to find one that works best for you.
It’s also worth pointing out that there are flavoured coffees that you can get. You can get coffee in a wide range of flavours, such as amaretto, chocolate orange, and caramel! Usually, this means there is something for everyone when it comes to taste, texture, and flavour.
Make It Portable
The final tip is to make your coffee portable so you aren’t tempted by any local coffee shops. Transferring your freshly brewed coffee to an insulated to-go mug means it will stay hot for hours to come. If you plan on taking it with you regularly, be sure to get a few to-go mugs so you’ve always got one clean and ready to be used.
You Can Be a Barista Too
Using these three simple tips you can become a barista in your own right and create delicious and fresh tasty coffee in the comfort of your home. Experiment with coffee to find what you like.
